Description

Benjamin Disraeli

ALS signed “B. Disraeli,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 7, blindstamped Grosvenor Gate letterhead, February 24, 1858. Letter to the politician Edward Cardwell. In part: "Tho' I have been much engaged of late, I have kept my eye on the proceedings of the Committee, & so far as I can presume to regulate their course, I should wish them to continue their enquiry without any delay, altho' circumstances may prevent, for a short period, my personal attendance. It is a source of great satisfaction to me, that the Committee is presided over by one, who, so eminently, commands both parliamentary, & public, respect." In fine condition, with scattered light soiling. On February 8, 1858, Disraeli and Cardwell had been appointed to the Select Committee on the Bank Acts, with Cardwell as chairman. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
