Description

Winfield Scott

ALS, four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, January 25, 1862. Letter to Mr. Kemble, in part: “The war steamer might be ready in the next ten days & it remains the same. No commander has, as yet, been appointed to her. In the meantime the winter is two thirds gone & before the end of February I should be…back by the heat & mosquitos…I am on the point of giving up the trip to Key West, having been already discouraged…President Van Buren would be a host in himself; but I don’t know what sort of a commander we shall have, I don’t know anything about accommodations onboard accept that we must furnish our own bedding.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
