In part: “I have received a letter…on the subject of a soldier called Absolum Dubre, inlisted by you. The statement made is, that this soldier was in a state of intoxication when inlisted, and had that not been the case, he would not have taken such a step. That he was sworn in three hours after his inlistment, is much absent from the service, and has a wife and children who suffer by his absence. That Mr. Boggs, in his professional capacity, brought an action against Dubre at the suit of a Pennsylvanian, upon a bond for a just debt, and that he is confined on this process issued. He further states that the creditor offers to procure a man, equal to Dubre, to serve in his place as a soldier, to return all the cloathes received by, and refund all the monies paid to, Dubre as a bounty or pay on condition that he be discharged from the service.” In fine condition, with show-through from writing to opposing sides.
