Cheney, in full: “Your favor of the 14th came duly to hand & in reply to your request that I should prosecute a suit for the violation of the copyright to your Historical Sketch, I would say that I sold my law library more than 20 years ago and quit the practice; and never expect to engage in it again. I have never had any occasion to study the law relating to copyright and therefore I can give you no reliable advice. I regret to say that I have not yet found time to read your sketch, and for some days passed I have been suffering from an inflammation in one of my eyes which is not yet well and therefore I read and write as little as possible.” Removably encapsulated in a Mylar sleeve.
