Description

Jimmy Carter

Western Union ‘mailgram’ telegram, one page, 8.5 x 11, June 9, 1976. Confirmation copy of a message sent to Carter by a supporter. In part: “I have been saving this for you. It was written by one of the leaders of the Irish Revolution, Padraic H. Pearse. This poem expresses the common faith of all leaders, but is perhaps best expressed by Mr. Pearse. I find it particularly applicable for you as the next president of the United States.” A transcript of the poem appears below. Signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint by Carter using a line from the poem, “Anne—‘Do not remember my failures,’ Jimmy.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
