American Revolutionary soldier (1740–1814) who helped organize the ‘Quaker Blues,’ a company of volunteers. Partly-printed DS, one page, 6 x 3.75, November 17, 1796. Official Commonwealth of Pennsylvania pay receipt. In part: “Received of William Simpson the sum of Three 50/100 Dollars, being the first payment of one half the purchase money for Lot, Number ‘1301’ in the Town of Erie purchased by him at public Auction.” In very good condition, with irregular toning, overall brittleness, chipping to edges, and a tiny hole at the bottom of one letter in the signature.
