A portion of Barnard’s draft for his 1996 work The Donor in his difficult to decipher hand, headed “Manuscript from ‘The Donor,’” mentioning “artificial heart,” “heart transplantation,” “surgeon,” “artificial kidney,” and “complications.” Barnard makes several edits and corrections throughout.
