Gordon Parks

American photographer, musician, writer and film director (1912–2006) who is best known for his Life Magazine photographic essays and for directing the 1971 film Shaft. Two books: a hardcover first edition of The Learning Tree, signed and inscribed on the half-title page in black felt tip, “For Joe Collins, with my good wishes, Gordon Parks”; and a hardcover first edition of Voices in the Mirror, signed and inscribed on the half-title page in black felt tip, “For Joe Collins, with my very best wishes—Gordon Parks.” In overall fine condition, with trivial creasing and wear to dust jackets, and trivial soiling to textblock edges. Parks became the first African American to direct a Hollywood film when he adapted his semi-autobiographical novel The Learning Tree in 1969. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
