Illegitimate son of Benjamin Franklin (1730–1813) who served as the last colonial governor of New Jersey. ALS signed “W. F.,” one page, 6.5 x 8, May 5, 1769. Letter to a gentleman. In part: “I desired Wm. James to acquaint you with the contents of your Brother’s letter…He writes to me for a certified copy of Picken’s Journal to the Otago Tract. I have it not, but suppose he left it with you. Do send me a fair copy of it by the first opportunity that I may send it to him as requested.” In fine condition, with scattered creases (one passing through the second letter of his signature).
