Dana, Maj Gnl,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, Head Quarters, District of Vicksburg letterhead, August 30, 1864. Letter to Colonel Van E. Young, in part: “You will, unless you see some good reason to the contrary, send a sufficient force to visit Mrs. McFarland’s House. Major Backus will explain to you matters about a letter or some letters to be found there implicating certain officers in Treason and Fraud. Let Lt. Hathaway accompany the Expedition & secure the letters & arrest such parties as they implicate.” Slight creasing and mirroring to the ink, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
