Description

Robert W. Service

British-Canadian poet and writer (1874–1958) known for his vivid descriptions of the Yukon territory during the Klondike gold rush. ALS signed “R. W. Service,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 7.25, Hotel Thermal letterhead, April 30, 1928. Letter to a friend, in full: “Would you kindly send me to this address three of those card advertisements of ‘Why not grow young?’ There are three chapters on Royat in it which originally appeared in the Cosmopolitan and which brought me hundreds of letters and has already sent dozens of new visitors to the place. The consequence is that I am received like a prince here and they won’t take my money. But what I am going to suggest is that I see no reason why the book should not sell here by the thousand, and for many years to come. I am keeping the authorities alive to it, and in due course will go deeper into the matter.” Recipient’s name has been crossed out with black ink. Light soiling and creasing, and a diagonal fold, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
