Western: John Sutter

Californian pioneer (1803–1880) known for his association with the Gold Rush as the owner of Sutter’s Mill, where gold was first discovered by James W. Marshall. Large ink signature, “J. A. Sutter,” on a light blue 7.5 x 3.75 lightly-lined slip clipped from the close of a letter. Affixed at the top edge to a slightly larger slip. In fine condition, with intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature). A bold, prominent example. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
