Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary as wife of Emperor Franz Joseph I, known for her obsessive concern with her health and beauty (1837–1898). Uncommon 4 x 5.75 trimmed cabinet photo of Empress Elisabeth with her famously elaborate braided hairstyle in full view, signed and inscribed on the reverse in black ink in German, adding an unsettling sketch of a spider at the bottom. In very good condition, with a light central vertical crease passing through a few letters in the inscription and signature, scattered toning, creases, and soiling, and irregularly trimmed edges to an oval shape.
