Description

Lin Yutang

Writer (1895–1976) whose compilations and translations of classic Chinese texts into English were bestsellers in the West. ALS, one page, 4.75 x 4.25, personal letterhead, April 20, 1948. In full: “‘Jolly’ is a typically English words, used like ‘pretty’ in ‘jolly good.’ But ‘pretty’ is rather negative, while ‘jolly’ is more positive in connotation.” In fine condition, with trimmed edges and subtle show-through from adhesive remnants to reverse.
