Description

“I have one advantage over Elsie and Pearl: they write better, but I have that old ‘Take it Off!’ sideline to fall back on if I lose my typewriter”

TLS signed “Gypsy (Naked Genius) Lee,” one page, 8.5 x 11, illustrated Star and Garter letterhead, no date. Letter to “Miss Miller.” In part: “I’m too pleased with my lot in life to wish I were anyone else, but if I must, I’ll choose…oh, say, Elsie Dinsmore or Pearl Buck. Any female writer, in fact, who isn’t a butt for jokes such as ‘This critic, for one, hopes to be invited to one of her literary tease’ (get it?) or, ‘She has added another (G) string to her bow’ and the usual poetry rhyming ‘Novel’ with ‘Navel.’ Bum jokes and all, I’d rather be me. I’m doing what I always wanted to do and I have one advantage over Elsie and Pearl: they write better, but I have that old ‘Take it Off!’ sideline to fall back on if I lose my typewriter.” In fine condition, with a diagonal crease to the lower left corner. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
