The future Confederate president forwards a recommendation to the treasury secretary

ALS signed “Jeffer Davis,” one page, 5 x 6.75, Senate Chamber, March 14, 1849. Letter to the US secretary of the treasury. In full: “Sir, the enclosed letter of recommendation in favor of Dr. Blackburn is signed by gentlemen well known to me as of the highest respectability and intelligence.” A vertical fold through a single letter of signature, scattered mild toning, with a spot over end of signature, and a few spots of light soiling, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
