William S. Rosecrans

TLS signed “W. S. Rosecrans,” one onionskin page, 8 x 10, Treasury Department letterhead, October 11, 1888. Letter to Captain Hunter. In part: “Murat Halstead advised Gen. Boynton to have a little book made out of those letters, by adding them to something that would be suitable and germane. I told Gen. B—I thought favorably of that.” Underneath, Rosecrans adds a lengthy handwritten postscript, which reads, “Gen. Boynton has been seen, and it is agreed that it is best to print another 1000; Will send some for Loyal Legion and members of the Army of the Cumberland who call for them, leaving it to your discretion as to how to dispose of same. W. S. R.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
