Original signed ink sketch of the escape plan for the August 6th, 1945 atomic mission at Hiroshima on an off-white 11 x 8.5 sheet. Van Kirk draws a series of concentric circles around the primary target of Hiroshima Japan, marks the target of the bomb and the location of both the Enola Gay and the 2nd plane at the time of the dropping of the bomb. The diagram shows the 150 degree turn of the Enola Gay and its location in relation to the first and second sets of shock wave. Van Kirk adds handwritten notations below the escape plan diagram: “Altitude- 30,060 ft, True Air Speed- 275 mph, Bomb Detonation- 43 seconds after drop, Bank of Turn- 60+ degrees.” He marks the bomb away spot and draws the lst and 2nd bomb shock waves in relation to the plane. He adds the position of the Enola Gay and also the "Great Artist, the insurance plane." At the center of the drawing he has a 1″ black circle labeled "Target." In fine condition.
