Highly influential American cinematographer (1904-1948) noted for his innovative use of lighting and techniques such as deep focus, an example of which can be found in his work on Orson Welles's Citizen Kane. DS, two thin pages, 8.5 x 11, April 7, 1945. Toland signs off on his agreement with Samuel Goldwyn Inc. regarding his “vacation with pay of four consecutive weeks during each year of the term”…of his September 8, 1941 contract,” beginning on April 9, 1945 and ending on May 6, 1945.” The contract further states that this time, with Toland’s consent, that Samuel Goldwyn will lend Toland’s services to be utilized in the employ of Vanguard Films “in the connection with the photoplay now entitled ‘Notorious’ which Vanguard is to partially produce in Brazil.” A light crease and staple mark at the top left corner, two small sets of rust marks and two punch holes towards the top edge, a few pen and ink notations in another hand, otherwise fine condition.
