Madison signs along the top of a document verifying “the vessel…of the burden of about tons, which he as present navigates, is of the United States of America, and that no subjects of the present belligerent powers have any part of portion therein, directly or indirectly, so may God Almighty help him.” In very good condition, with two vertical creases, one passing through a single letter of the last name, uniform block of toning, trimmed edges, and mounting remnants on the reverse.
