Description

“Mr. Musgrove said over the phone that ‘George Cukor’ ramrodded the whole thing”

TLS signed “Mary,” one page, 6.5 x 9.5, personal letterhead, January 21, 1963. Letter to George Cukor. In part: “What an evening that was…I hope I lived up to your expectations of me. I was thrown a little off by my dress, which I thought made me look, shall we say, fat. The other disturbing element was when I began to talk about Mr. Zukor and yesteryear, I actually couldn’t go on because of the choking lump in my throat…One of the most outstanding moments of the evening was when you whispered to me that my acting of fifty years ago was as modern as the methods used today.” Under her signature, Pickford adds a short postscript which reads, “I thought that this might amuse you, Mr. Musgrove said over the phone that ‘George Cukor’ ramrodded the whole thing.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
