Description

Dr. Jekyll pleads for war time assistance for England’s youth

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, September 18, 1941. Letter to George Cukor. In part: “A year ago you gave $25.00 to further the day nursery program in this country. Little children need your help more than ever because they are so often overlooked in a national emergency. And we know that pale, pinched faces are not the stuff on which our democracy will thrive in the years ahead. Many parents are ‘on the road,’ streaming into industrial centers via jalopies, buses and trailers all looking for work. There are stories of children locked in box cars for safe-keeping…Deliquiuncy reaps a harvest when little children are left to shift for themselves…The need is great this year–but even greater is our obligation as Americans to these ’box-car’ children and their brothers and sisters.” In fine condition, with portion of one line of text underlined, and two pencil notations to top right regarding a donation. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
