Description

President Monroe grants 160 acres of Illinois land to a former infantryman

Vellum DS as president, signed “James Monroe,” one page, 12.75 x 9.75, February 14, 1818. President Monroe grants “John Fider late a private in Burnetts Company Forty Sixth Regiment of Infantry a Certain Tract of Land, containing One Hundred and Sixty Acres…in the Territory of Illinois.” Intersecting folds, wrinkling, and toning and soiling, heaviest along the right side, otherwise very good condition. The original seal is affixed as is a slip noting that a map of the bounty land was available through the General Land Office. Although most of these documents once had the added slip, today they are rarely, if ever, still attached! Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Kenneth W. Rendell Gallery. A very bold signature of the fifth President of the United States. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
