Signed booklet, The Historic Speech of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela at the Rivona Trial, 5.75 x 8, Johannesburg: 2000. Learn and Teach Publications, 33 pages. Signed on the title page, “N. Mandela.” An interesting note printed above the signature on the title page reads, “We would just like to remind you that although this booklet was seized under the emergency media regulations when it was first printed last year … you are perfectly entitled to own or possess a copy of this booklet.” In fine condition. Book is housed in a custom made drop back slip case with Chinese silk ties. On June 11, 1964, at the conclusion of the trial, Mandela and seven others were convicted. Mandela was found guilty on four charges of sabotage and like the others was sentenced to life imprisonment without release. Mandela spent 27 years in jail before he was released as part of several political reforms introduced by the white regime. A historic speech given shortly before his imprisonment.
