Renowned Polish-born Shakespearean actress (1840-1909). Lovely original albumen photo, trimmed to a size of 7 x 11.75, a three-quarter-length view of the fancily attired actress, signed and inscribed in ink, "Mr. Melville E. Stone, Better late than never, Very sincerely yours, Helena Modjeska, 1892." Stone (1848–1929) was a publisher who founded the Chicago Daily News and later became general manager of the Associated Press. In very good condition, with mild soiling, faint scattered toning and foxing, some light silvering, and trimming to edges. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
