American author (1919–2003) best known for the romance novel Forever Amber, a controversial and allegedly pornographic novel. Signed book: Forever Amber. First edition, first printing. NY: The Macmillan Company, 1944. Hardcover with dustjacket, 6 x 8.5, 972 pages. Signed and inscribed in black ink on the free end page opposite the title page, 'To Joan Myers—With many thanks for helping to speed Amber on her way—Kathleen Winsor. October 9, 1944.' In very good condition, with spine lettering rubbed, light fraying at spine ends, hinges slightly weakened, and the dustjacket heavily worn and torn with chipping and a missing front flap and torn back of the dustjacket. Accompanied by an invitation and envelope for a reception in honor of the author and the release of the book, originally presented to John Norris Myers, director of the Macmillan Company and the father of the book’s first recipient.
