Vintage sepia matte-finish 5 x 7 photo of Lugosi in a tuxedo with tails, likely from a stage production of Dracula, neatly signed in fountain pen. In fine condition, with toning irregularity to the image likely from the original negative. A penetrating portrait of one of the horror genre’s most iconic actors.
Lugosi was a hit from the moment he stepped on the stage and offered a chilling performance as Bram Stoker's Count Dracula in 1927. Lugosi toured with the play across the United States, his success underscored by the tributes and pilgrimages that celebrities made to witness his unique characterization. In 1930, Lugosi was tapped by renowned director Tod Browning to star in the film version of Dracula. A pencil notation on the reverse by renowned autograph dealer dealer Charles Hamilton reads, “Authentic sig. CH.” Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
