French composer (1842–1912) best known for such operas as ‘Manon,’ ‘Werther,’ and ‘Thais.’ ANS in French, not signed “Massenet,” but ostensibly signed with an appellation known to the recipient, on both sides of his personal calling card, 4 x 2.5, no date, but circa 1870s. In part (translated): “Your painting is splendid…and I have a great pleasure to recall my one day spent in your home when you worked there …congratulations…to you, from the heart (’a Vous, de Coeur’).” Scattered toning to both sides, otherwise fine condition.
