Description

“Thank you for taking a stand against colorization”

ALS, on the inside of a 5.25 x 3.75 thank you note, no date, but postmarked January 16, 1989. Short letter of thanks and answering a question. In full: “Thank you for your kind letter. Yes—the grandfather in the soup commercial is me. Thank you for taking a stand against colorization.” In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Stewart’s hand. In 1988, Stewart made an impassioned plea in Congressional hearings, along with colleagues Burt Lancaster, Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, and film director Martin Scorsese, against Ted Turner's decision to 'colorize' classic black and white films, including It's a Wonderful Life. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
