Union general (1834-1902) who received the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Siege of Corinth. ALS, one page, lightly-lined, 8 x 10, Osborn & Swayne letterhead, March 28, 1871. Letter to General M. F. Force. In part: “I will say what I can in response to the sentiment ‘our dead.’ From what you write me about Lewis Mills…I suspect that a letter from Lewis to me has miscarried in some way. I have engaged with some ladies of my wife’s family to spend the 5th and 6th at the Barnet House…I do not wish Lewis to feel I have not replied to his letter. Will you do me the favor, if you find Lewis has written, to advise him of the truth?” In fine condition, with intersecting folds and some scattered light toning. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. RRAuction COA.
