Partly-printed DS, signed “T. Roosevelt,” one page, 14 x 12, May 26, 1899. Roosevelt, as New York governor and commander and chief of the state’s military and naval forces, recognizes a resident’s service. In part: “Know ye that Sergeant George W. Travis, 47th Regt….having served in the Land or Naval forces of this State for a period of Ten Years…has received the decoration of the Fourth class awarded by the State for long and Faithful Service.” Countersigned by Adjutant General Avery D. Andrews. Cloth-matted with a small portrait of a jovial TR to an overall size of 19.5 x 24.5. In very good condition, with scattered moderate overall toning. The bright orange state seal is intact.
