American playwright, songwriter, and actor (1878–1942), widely regarded as the father of American musical comedy, who takes a place among the most beloved entertainers of his era. DS, signed “George M. Cohan,” 14 pages, 8.5 x 11, March 14, 1940. Agreement between Cohan and Loew’s Incorporated. In part: “The Owner is the sole author of and has sole and encumbered ownership of all motion picture rights in certain unpublished, literary and/or dramatic writings and material, known as ‘LITTLE NELLIE KELLY’, musical play, written, composed, and produced by George M. Cohan.” In fine condition, with staple holes along the left edge and filing punch holes at the top of each page. Accompanied by the agreement’s front and back covers, and a flyer for the stage production. Little Nellie Kelly was a 1940 musical comedy film starring Judy Garland that was based on the Cohan’s hit Broadway musical of the 1920s. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
