Description

Gustav Mahler

Austrian composer (1860–1911) whose epic symphonies redefined the genre and assured him a place among the most important and influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. DS in German, signed “Mahler,” one page, 8.25 x 13.5, January 24, 1904. In full (translated): “In accordance with existing regulations, Mr. Josef Hassreiter and Mr. Josef Bayer are personably responsible for the total cost of ratification stamps affixed to subject contract, issued in triplicate. Indicating acknowledgment by their individual signatures below.” Also signed by composer Josef Bayer (director of the Austrian Court Ballet for 30 years) and librettist/choreographer Josef Hassreiter. Bayer and Hassreiter were authors of The Fairy Doll (Die Puppenfee), which became one of the most overwhelmingly successful ballets of its time in Vienna. Central horizontal and vertical folds, a uniform shade of toning, a few creases and wrinkles, and a received stamp to lower blank portion, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
