TLS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 8 x 10.5, August 3, 1921. Taft writes John B. Randolph of the War Department. In full: “I have your letter of July 30th and thank you for your kind congratulations upon my appointment to be Chief Justice and for your good wishes. I remember well my association with you when I was Secretary of War so many years ago.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, light edge toning, crease to lower right corner, and a slight brush to the end of his first name.
