LS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, April 7, 1914. Letter to Treasury Secretary William G. McAdoo. In part: “Senator Simmons, of North Carolina, is deeply interested in a Mr. Rogers who has made a place of respect for himself in North Carolina as a business man, and I take the liberty of suggesting that you make a note of his name…in order that he may be carefully considered by the Reserve Board.” In fine condition, with scattered light soiling, and a slightly fuzzy appearance to text and signature.
Wilson lured McAdoo away from business after their meeting in 1910 and later enlisted his services for his presidential campaign in 1912. Once he became president, Wilson appointed McAdoo secretary of the treasury, a post McAdoo held from 1913 to 1918. He married Wilson’s daughter Eleanor Randolph Wilson at the White House on May 7, 1914 exactly one month after this letter was dated. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
