Bandleader and composer nicknamed ‘The March King.’ A brilliant man who sought to reach a mass audience through his music, he formed his own band in 1892 and carefully selected the music to include in his band’s repertoire. AMQS on an 8 x 5.5 sheet of Sousa’s business stationery, Sousa has penned four bars of music of ‘On The Campus’ and signed “John Philip Sousa,” above the quote, as well as adding the title and year “1921.” Matted with an original postcard portrait bearing a facsimile signature to an overall size of 11 x 14. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through the music and a single letter of the signature. Composed in 1920, Sousa undoubtedly chose what was then one of his ‘more recent’ works in compliance with an autograph request. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
