West Point’s superintendent writes of plans to meet his former commander, U. S. Grant

ALS signed “J. M. Schofield,” one page both sides, 5.5 x 8.25, December 6, 1879. From West Point, Schofield writes to Colonel Church. In part: “I wrote to Genl. Grant Thursday, making inquiry about the time of his visit to New York and informing him of the decision of our Companies to meet him while here. As soon as I get his answers I will take action, according to his plans and wishes.” In fine condition, with light show-through from writing on opposing sides.
