Description

One of the game’s best pitchers greets at the Empire Hotel before being enshrined in Cooperstown

One of the greatest pitchers in baseball history, he won 30 games each season from 1915 to 1917 and led the league in ERA five times. No other National League pitcher has surpassed his marks of 373 victories and 90 shutouts. Alexander’s personal business card from his time with the Empire Buffet at the Empire Hotel Tap Room (Johnny Connors, Proprietor) in Springfield, Illinois, 3.5 x 2.25, signed across the front in green ink, “G. C. Alexander.” Card is affixed to an 8.5 x 10 photocopied sheet featuring an image of Alexander and Connors posing together in the restaurant in 1937 and several collector’s notations stating Alexander worked as a greeter at the restaurant. In very good condition, with scattered toning and soiling and light surface creasing. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
