Description

The Fab Four sign while staying at The Plaza during their first American visit

Original vintage promotional card for The Plaza New York presents Julius Monk’s New Post Prandial Prank Baker’s Dozen with Gerry Matthews, 3.75 x 6. Signed on the reverse in blue ballpoint, “Paul McCart[ney],” “John Lennon,” “Ringo Starr,” and “George Harrison.” Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks, stating: “The group stayed at the Plaza New York between 7th & 9th February 1964 during the first American visit.” Also accompanied by a printed invitation, on United Artists Corp letterhead, for the Beatles press conference on February 10, and two photos of the band at the press conference. Scattered creasing, toning, and soiling, tape remnants to unsigned side, and a bit of old tape toning over small portion of McCartney’s signature, otherwise very good condition.

The Beatles began their British Invasion on February 7, 1964, upon their arrival at New York’s Kennedy Airport. Greeted by 3,000 cheering fans, they swarmed the Plaza Hotel and packed the CBS studio for a taping of Ed Sullivan’s show. It was during their stay at the Plaza that John, Paul, George, and Ringo held the press conference referenced here—one in which Ringo playfully had his photo snapped taking the pulse of psychologist and advice columnist Dr. Joyce Brothers. The Fab Four’s stay at the posh Manhattan hotel coincided with a show promoted by Monk, the host of a cabaret -style performance at the Plaza. A good set of signatures, obtained during that 72-hour span that changed the face of music in the USA! Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RRAuction COA.
