Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 20.5 x 16.5, November 4, 1809. Four language ship’s papers issued to “Benjamin C. Simmons, master and commander of the brig called The Regulator…lying present in the port of New York bound for Lisbon and laden with Flour-Pork-Pepper & Stores.” Nicely signed in ink by Madison and countersigned by Secretary of State Robert Smith. Document is affixed at the edges to a slightly larger board. Intersecting folds, scattered edge wear and creasing, and toning to corners and vertical fold from adhesive on reverse, otherwise fine condition. Both seals remain crisp and intact, and Madison’s signature is unaffected by any of the flaws. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
