Description

Schulz shies away from creating a handicapped character: “I can also imagine the critical letters I would receive for something like this”

TLS signed “Charles M. Schulz,” one page, 8.5 x 11, The Graphic Art of Charles Schulz letterhead, February 4, 1986. Letter to an Orthodox reverend who suggested the creation of a new character. In part: “It would be very difficult for me to create a character who wore a leg brace and do it with the necessary charm. Humor that is worthwhile has to come from some kind of personal experience. I can also imagine the critical letters I would receive for something like this.” In fine condition. An interesting comment from the Peanuts creator who was never one to shy away from diversity in his comic. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
