Description

Braxton Bragg

Confederate general (1817–1876) who was relieved of field duty after his unsuccessful siege of Chattanooga. His mixed legacy as a skilled organizer but a poor commander remains one of the great topics of debate among Civil War historians. Ink signature, “Respectfully yr obt, svt, Brax—Bragg, 1st Lieut 3rd Ary. Cmg. PM,” on an off-white 4 x 2 slip, affixed to a slightly larger slip. Signature is affixed by its left edge to a 7.5 x 4.5 sheet above a collector’s short manuscript biography. Some scattered toning from adhesive on reverse, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
