Description

Composer of our National Anthem

Baltimore lawyer (1779–1843) who was inspired to write the “Star-Spangled Banner” after he witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British in 1814. Ink signature, “yrs F. S. Key, U.S. Atty D.C,” on an off-white 5 x 1 slip. Signature is affixed by its left edge to a 7.5 x 9.5 sheet above a collector’s short manuscript biography. In fine condition, with a vertical fold through the “U,” and some mild toning. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
