Description

Early signature of the rare and distinguished General Hill

Confederate general (1825 -1865). He gained early fame as the commander of “Hill’s Light Division,” becoming one of Stonewall Jackson’s ablest subordinates. He later commanded a corps under Robert E. Lee in the Army of Northern Virginia before his death in battle just prior to the end of the war. Rare ink signature, “A. P. Hill / 1 Lieut 1 Art,” on an off-white 4 x 1.5 slip, dated 1859 in another hand. Signature is affixed by its left edge to a 7.5 x 4.5 sheet above a collector’s short manuscript biography. In fine condition. A seldom-seen offering from this elusive Confederate. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
