Very nice engraved portrait of Roosevelt, 8.75 x 11.5, signed under the image in black ink, as President, “Faithfully yours, Theodore Roosevelt, Oct. 20th, 1904.” In very good condition, with some light damp-staining and a couple of paper repairs to edges of large borders, and scattered light surface flecking to background of image and borders. The image is mostly unaffected by the flaws, and Roosevelt’s signature is quite bold and prominent; the wide border could easily be matted out to make an attractive display.
The engraving portrays a stately TR, with the noted date just one week before his 46th birthday. It’s unlikely that Roosevelt had much time for celebration, however, as he would also have been campaigning against Democratic challenger Alton B. Parker in preparation for the November 8, 1904 presidential election. Perhaps the act of signing an autograph worked to his advantage, as the electoral process easily returned Roosevelt to the White House that year.
