Description

Mitchell receives Bulgarian copies of “Gone With the Wind”, amazed that “books could come safely half across the world, through fighting nations, and find a resting place on my quiet book shelves.”

TLS signed “Margaret Mitchell Marsh,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, June 3, 1941. Letter of thanks to an admirer in Bulgaria. In full, “I was indeed surprised to receive a letter from Bulgaria. European mail is so uncertain these days. I was very pleased to have your letter, the first and only one I have received from Bulgaria since my book was published in your country. I thank you for writing me so fine a letter. I have just received from my Bulgarian publisher copies of ‘Gone With the Wind’ published in your language. Alas, I cannot read the book, but I value it. It seems scarcely possible that books could come safely half across the world, through fighting nations, and find a resting place on my quiet book shelves.” In fine condition, with two punch holes to left edge, some light soiling, and creasing to lower edge and upper right corner. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
