American author (1900–1949) whose single novel, Gone with the Wind, became one of the best-sellers of all time and spawned one of the most fabled movies in Hollywood history. She died after being struck by a speeding car at the age of forty-eight. Signed book: Gone With the Wind. First edition. NY: Macmillan Company, 1936. Hardcover, 6 x 9, 1037 pages. Signed in fountain pen on the first free end page, “Margaret Mitchell.” Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. In good condition, with allover rubbing and light soiling to covers, tearing at spine ends, light soiling and faint spotting to front matter (including signed page; crease to one corner), and rear hinge roughly detached (though restorable; front hinge beginning to similarly detach). The signature itself is dark, clear, and generally unaffected. Due to overwhelming demands upon her, Mitchell signed copies of GWTW only for a short time after publication, even denying friends and relatives; signed (and especially uninscribed) copies are thus quite uncommon. R&R COA.
