Description

The great Romantic makes a “dental note”

Highly influential British poet, politician, soldier, and adventurer (1788–1824), sexual and otherwise, who takes a place as the most colorful literary figure of the Romantic era. His works include such classics as Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage and Don Juan. Scarce ink signature, “Byron,” on a gray 1.75 x 1 slip affixed to an 8 x 8.75 sheet, along with a similar slip with part of an address in Byron’s hand. The sheet also bears an unsigned postal cover addressed in Byron’s hand to his first publisher, John Murray, Esq., in London, bearing a “Venezia” ink stamp and postmarked January 21, 1814, retaining a portion of the original integral letter. In full: “Will you have the goodness to send to me by any sure conveyance four or five boxes of Dr. Waite’s red tooth-powder. He lives in Burlington St.” Scattered soiling and wrinkling to both items (not affecting Byron’s signature; heavier to cover), and creases to cover, otherwise very good condition. R&R COA.
