Vintage matte-finish 7.25 x 9.25 Melbourne Spurr photo, a dramatic image of the actress clutching her pearls, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To ‘Pev’ Marley in remembrance of the days with the ‘only one,’ ‘C.B.,’ Sincerely, Gloria Swanson.” The inscribee was J. Peverall Marley (1901–1964), the Oscar-nominated cinematographer who collaborated with Cecil B. DeMille on such silent classics as The Ten Commandments and King of Kings, and on DeMille’s color extravaganza The Greatest Show on Earth; “C.B.” is a reference to DeMille himself. Swanson and DeMille would later reunite in one of the most memorable sequences in film history, in the 1950 Billy Wilder classic Sunset Boulevard. In very good condition, with slight, neat trimming to edges, pinholes at corners, and scattered light silvering to dark portions. R&R COA.
