Description

British statesman (1900–1979), uncle of Prince Philip, and Supreme Allied Commander in Southeast Asia who was killed by an IRA bomb. TLS, one page, 7 x 9, Broadlands letterhead, June 22, 1967. Letter to a friend. In part, “I would gladly allow your friend…to see my father’s papers if I had any. Most unfortunately my mother was not a ‘paper keeper’ and after having allowed Admiral Mark Kerr to write the biography of my father she destroyed all his papers. I have a splendid muniments room at Broadlands full of my own archives and those of my wife’s family but none, alas, of my father’s papers.” In fine condition, with an intersecting fold, staple holes to top left, and an erased notation to top right. R&R COA.
